waldorapesketchKansas City Police have released a composite sketch of a suspected serial rapist in the Waldo area, based on victims’ descriptions of him.

As of The Sun's press time, police still were looking  for the suspect. Police believe the man depicted in the sketch sexually assaulted a woman at 9:50 p.m. Jan. 23 in the 8300 block of Mercier Street and another woman at 12:30 a.m. Jan. 24 in the 10 block of East Porte Cimi Pas.

Police believe the same man could be responsible for two similar sexual assaults in the same area last fall. Those occurred Sept. 29, 2009, in the 7500 block of Summit and Oct. 11, 2009, in the 100 block of East 78th Terrace.

In all four cases, the suspect assaulted the women in their homes.

Victims have described the suspect as a black male who is about 6-feet tall and weighs 250 pounds. He is bald and has pitted cheeks, possibly from acne scars. The victims said he had a deep voice and bad breath, and smelled of exhaust fumes.

Police urge anyone with information about the suspect to call police or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-8477.

The Kansas City Police Department is holding a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Fellowship Hall at Broadway United Methodist Church, 406 W. 74the St., to inform people about personal and home safety following the recent sexual assaults on women in the Waldo area.

Also, Kennedy's Bar and Grill, 501 W. 75th St., Waldo, hosts a fundraiser from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, to raise awareness and reward money for the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline to catch the Waldo rapist. Admission of $10 includes food, two drink tickets for beer or wine, and music by The Beatles cover band Abbey Road. For information about the event, call 361-9788‎.
